I started this book when I had a Iot going on in my personal life. It was so interesting that I literally could not put it down. I could not believe how this book just sucked me in during the first few pages. It begins with a young man named Bam having to watch his friend Rachel be sucked into a port of pure white light that lead into the Tower. That moment of the book was really powerful for me. I could feel the hurt that he felt about her leaving him to enter this new place where she felt she would be happier. Bam follows Rachel in to the Tower but he is approached by a guard of the Tower that tells him he must complete a series of tests in order to make it to the top. These tests are challenging and are enough to make any person question whether or not love or friendship is worth it. Considering he felt Rachel was the only light in his darkness, the star in his night sky, there was nothing that would stand in the way of him getting back to her.
I would say that if you have lost a close friend or family member and aren’t sure how to express of deal with those feelings, this book can help. It has helped me tremendously. I don’t have very many family members left and as the holidays approach I can relate to the loneliness that BAM felt when he lost Rachel. The difference between the book and my real life is that I can not go on a quest to see my family again but if there was a way, NO one would be able to stop me from taking the same dangerous steps that Bam took.
The art in the book is generally very good but there are some pages or panels that are not as good as the body of this book. This story was gripping and was well written. I am highly anticipating the release of book 2 and this story has peeked my interest in the writer. I look forward to reading more things by them.
