This was a fun blast from the past. This book had a very moving moment in the first few pages of the book. The scene was Green Arrow telling Green Lantern that the Lantern was blind to real people’s troubles and had only been dealing with the troubles of other species. Green Lantern thought Green Arrow was wrong. That all changed when an old black man walked up to Green Lantern and told him that he had been reading about how Green Lantern had saved Blue people, Orange people, and Striped people. But what about the Black people… what had he done for them? Green Lantern lowered his head and say nothing. Green Arrow just looked at him.
That moment in this book was the turning point for people and for comics. You can do a lot for everyone that you barely know, but what have you done for people that are closest to you, or the ones you see everyday and are part of your normal life?
The second part of this book was a story spanning the two comics when Green Arrow found out that his ward Speedy was a junkie. These 2 comic books stories showed what drugs did to people, and the people that made the money from making the drugs. This was a VERY POWERFUL story!!!!!! Back when these comics came out, there was a thing called The Comics Code that was BS!!! The Comics Code disallowed extreme violence, mention of drug use, and many other adult subject matters. These two comics were some of the first ones that were released with disregard for the Comics Code, and they ended up being some of the top selling books.
I really enjoyed this book and I am glad that the Comic Book Code is Dead!!!!!!!!!
