This book meant a lot to me and I really enjoyed reading it. Captain America: The Chosen was a very powerful read and reminded me of some stores that my father use to take me to. My father was in the military and this touched close to home as I remember going to these places and meeting other GI’s. My father was an avid reader and he introduced other men on the base to partake in his love of comics, especially Captain America.
The first part of the book shows a solider that had been fighting for along time during the war. The duration of the war really burdened the solider and at times he had a hard time remembering why he was fighting. The writer allows you to experience what the solider is feeling when he views a picture of his wife holding their precious baby. The wife desperately wanting to see her husband again and wanting him to hold their child. Those pictures and that part of the book really had me thinking and treasuring my time with my father. My dad worked hard serving in the military and doing many other jobs to help me with my medical treatments. He even prepared for after his death, that I would be set up with insurance to cover me and allow me to live with coverage. A father’s love is wonderful and this book allowed me to appreciate that even further.
The next part of the story that really touched my soul was when the solider saw some of his men under attack. The solider visualized that he was working with Captain America and was able to charge in and help his comrades. The solider had the belief and strength because he thought Captain American was side by side with him, when in reality it was his own strength that allowed him to help his fallen men. After the battle, the men praised the solider for coming to their aide, however he deferred it to Captain America. The men profusely told him that it was him and him alone—not Captain America that helped them. That he had the strength, the valor, and the honor to save them all by himself. There are sometimes in life that you really need someone to provide you that positive influence and that push to see the light at the end of the tunnel. This comic reminded me that I am not alone and that there are others out there that just want the best for me.
This book really meant A LOT to me as it allowed me to cherish moments that I had with my father who passed away several years ago. It also has helped me deal with my medical ailments better as it reminded me that my father was also supportive of my medical treatments. He always encouraged me to seek out the right specialists so that I could live the best life possible. Thank you.
