Alita Last Order Omnibus Vol.1 - Review

This book is full of twists and turns. The story is a page turner as well as a slow burn. The story shows the reader a glimpse into the early years of Alita’s past and the hardships she had to go through to become the warrior that she was meant to become.

The story shows Professor Nova’s Lab with a human brain floating in a glass cylinder. The cylinder is hooked to a huge rows of computers. Professor Nova and his assistant look at the floating brain as the story shows a flashback to the Mars battlefield. We see Alita meet her first real friend, Erica, on the battlefield. Alita real name is Yoko and she meet her first friend name Erica on the Mars battlefield. They make their way across the battlefield to a wrecked spaceship, and hopefully freedom. I feel like this is a moment that will pop up throughout the five books that are in the series. This incident seems to be a key point in Alita’s life.

The story next shows Alita being reborn into a new robotic body that has upgrades that Professor Nova has added to her new body. Alita learns what has happened while she been gone from a video that Professor Nova made for her and three teenagers that she runs into as she was trying to get her bearings. The teenagers take Alita to a camp that was full of little kids and teenagers. She was told that Professor Nova had replaced most of the people on earth with a computer brain. Only the kids, teenagers and Professor Nova’s ex assistant still had their brains still in their head. After Alita found out about that she tried to figure out what Professor Nova’s next step was going to be.

The story then shows Alita and two of the ladies from Nova’s lab leave to find Professor Nova and to ask him some questions. Unknown to Alita is that Professor Nova had made three cyborg clones of her using his MAD SCIENCE skills. Alita and her small group finds Professor Nova and the clones of Alita in a run down theater. Alita and one of the clones have a small fight as Professor Nova, the other two clones, and the two teens watch them fight. As all of this is going on Professor Nova’s ex assistant puts a computer chip with a mind of a child into a monster sized Golem.

The book shows the Golem remembering playing with his toy blocks, toy cars and action figures. He remembers the fun he had playing with all of those toys and wants to start playing again, but this time instead of playing with his old toys he is playing real buildings ,cars, and people like they were the same kind of toys he used to play with when he was still a human little boy. He did not think he was hurting anyone or anything as he played, but he was surprised when he tried to play with Alita and got more than he got bargained for.

Alita fought back against the Monster Golem little boy. She used her new body upgrades to put a stop to his fun. As Alita fought back and used her new upgrades on the Monster Golem it slowly made the little kid start to think and just want to sleep. The Monster Golem transformed into the form of a newborn still in his mother’s womb. He was encased in a diamond crystal that rests on top of a pillar in the the middle of the town square. One of the ladies from Alita’s small group looked up at the diamond crystal and said goodbye to her friend.

The story then puts the reader at a factory where there were hundreds of human bodies that have been squeezed into a huge cube. Alita saw her friend Lou’s body in that human cube and started to cry. Professor Nova then informed Alita that he can clone her friend Lou’s body but he does not have a way to make him a new brain chip. They would have to go to the moon base and use the human brain vault to make a scan of Lou’s brain for Professor Nova to make a new brain chip and clone Lou a new body. He informed Alita and her clones that they need to use the glass space elevator to reach the moon base. So one by one they enter the glass space elevator to go to the moon base.

This book was a very long one, so I have broken up my review into two parts. My next review will cover what happens in the back half of Omnibus One.
